What is the Value of Truth?

"Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
1Pilate saith unto him, What is truth?..."
- John 18:37-38

A question that has rung through the ears of millions, perhaps, billions of people throughout all of time up until now is the same question that Pilate asked Jesus, "What is truth?"
Truth is in itself, like the sun. Just as the sun gives light, truth also gives light. And like the sun, the light that truth gives is life-giving light. But truth has another quality to it other than just having light. Like the sun, truth will never go away. Truth is like the sun, forever shining bright, no matter if it is day or night, no matter if there are clouds or not, and no matter if a skeptic with a PHD puts his thumb up to block out the sun and chooses to not believe it exists.
The value of truth, that is a characteristic that is conditional, yet eternal. Conditional in the sense that to some, the value of truth is little, and the truth is not worth anything in their eyes. To those kinds of people, ignorance is bliss, and a lie is much more pleasant. Coming face to face with the truth is unthinkable, unreasonable, and totally out of the question. However, this attempt to block out the truth with their thumb does little to supress the truth. To others, the value of truth is priceless and most precious. The worth of knowing the truth is irreplaceable. It is inconceivable to even think about giving it up! So the questions here today is, What is truth? and how valuable is truth? Is it worth everything, or nothing at all?

The Truth About Our World
Let's look into the first question; What is truth? Jesus, as he prayed to the Father in John chapter 17, said in verse 17, "Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth." So here we have the word of God being truth. And if the Bible is God's words to mankind, then we can trust that the Bible contains truth.

The Bible says:

"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:31-32
And again:
"And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God." - John 8:45-47
Outside of the Bible, there are countless institutions and schools that teach that "...there is no God. Evolution is science, and religion is all in your head! Feel free to worship any god that you please, it's all the same. Oh and don't forget, modern science is the final authority. Everyone knows that modern science disproves any notion that there is a God. We scholars and doctors know more than any religious fanactics!" This is an absolute lie. The Bible says that only a fool says there is no God, in fact, the Bible says it twice (Psalm 14 & 53)! "(Psalm 14:1)The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." There is no proof whatsoever that a living, breathing thing has ever evolved from something non-living (ex: rock + water + time = human being). People used to believe that all kinds of things came from non-living things, like magots coming from thin air. However, the Bible is very clear:
"For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God." - Hebrews 3:4
Everything on the planet was either created by man or by God. Animals don't build concrete buildings, cars, or computers. Think about this for a moment: If you pick up a penny with Abraham Lincoln's picture on it, do you make any assumptions that a dog, or a cat made that coin? No! When you go to the airport, and see all the people there, do you doubt for one second that each of those people DID NOT have a mother? How is it, then, so easy to KNOW without any doubt that nothing made the oceans, the sun, the moon, the stars, the earth, and all the DNA make-up of a person?

Since nobody was actually around to see God create everything, people just assume there is no God. Just because nobody was there does not mean God did not leave us evidence of himself. The Bible (bible means "book", and this book contains 66 books within itself) is just one such piece of evidence which declares the existence of an Almighty God.

The Bible says that we have no excuse, because even the whole creation declares his existence.

"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." - Romans 1:20
The Disbelief of God's Word
The Bible cleary teaches that we must all stand before God in judgment, to answer for every single word we've ever spoken, and every single deed we've ever done. The Bible says:
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.." - Hebrews 9:27

If there is a judgment, then some of us will be found...GUILTY. And if guilty, then where do the guilty go? To hell! And this is why Jesus Christ came to the planet earth. This is why our Creator came. It was not to condmen us, it was not to lie to us, it was not to kill us, but it was to save us from hell!

"For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." - Luke 9:56
There is very much a disbelief in God's word. "Yea, hath God said..?" Many people seriously doubt that they will ever face an Almighty God someday: "Are you kidding? Everyone knows that evolution is science! The Bible is just religion. There is no God. And if there is a God, my good deeds will outweigh my bad deeds. Jesus Christ isn't the only way! Besides, that's pushing your beliefs on other people! You can't do that."

It is true, everyone has a right to their own set of beliefs and opinions. However, there are consequences to those who disbelieve the truth. Sure, you can believe that there is no gravity, but sooner or later, you'll change your mind, especially if you try and jump off a building. In the same way, you can believe that the truth of God's word holds no water. Just go about your lifestyle, do what feels good, but you'll pay for it someday with your soul.

The Ultimate Truth
So now let's go ahead and answer the question, just what is truth?

"Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:5-6
How can you travel from New York to L.A. without ever using a map or knowing the way? How would you know which way to go? If you try and travel from point A to point B without any directions, you will just get lost! It is the same concept with eternity. No matter what, you will go somewhere. But without a map, or without knowing the Way, you will just fall off a cliff into hell. You see, JESUS CHRIST is the Way and the TRUTH! It is Jesus Christ who is our ultimate truth! Humanity is utterly lost without a Savior. And that Savior is Jesus Christ. He had an ambition when he walked the earth. It was not to do any other thing, but to pay for our sins on the cross. And he gave us his own resurrection as proof.

All it takes is FAITH. It is an act that we all do everyday. It is so simple that children can do it (with exceptional understanding), which really angers the itellectuals! They simply cannot come to grips that an Almighty God, just spoke, and everything came into existance! They simply refuse to believe that such a simple answer is given for EVERYTHING! Think about it, it is so simple that it is simply MINDBOGGLING! How can you just have faith in God over the natural process of evolution?! No matter what, faith will always play a role. You either have faith in nature (nature and natural process is god), or you have faith in God Almighty (he created it all).

He created everything for his own good pleasure. And it was all created in perfection, but we human beings chose to please ourselves instead of submitting to an Almighty God. Hence, we became sinful, and the enemies of God. And this is why God sent his Son Jesus Christ; to save mankind, to make peace with mankind, and to take the punishment for mankind. The answer is so simple, so TRUTHFUL, that the skeptics search and scour for every excuse to NOT believe in God and his Son, Jesus Christ.

The Truth About Hell

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-10
Hell is a truth that many, in fact, quite a majority of people refuse to believe in. However, it is a truth that God himself has tried to warn humanity about way before Jesus Christ shed his blood on the cross (Isaiah 14:9). Hell was not made for innocent righteous people, just like jail was not made for the law abiding citizen. But, since we all are guilty before God (Psalm 53), hell is made for us, and man needs an advocate, a savior, a redeemer. All of these offices are fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son. Hell is God's jail for the eternally damned soul that sins, which we all are. Yet, it is a place that we can be saved from!

The Value of Truth
So now is the conclusion. The truth is that Jesus Christ, God's Son, was sent to save mankind, and that he is the Savior of the world. The truth is him! He is the truth. He made the world (John 1:1 and 1st John 5:7), and he has life to give to all who trust in him. The question now is, what is the value of truth? Are you going to take the truth, and accept it? Or will you believe a lie? And if you do believe the truth, then what will you do with it? What is the truth worth to you? Is it worth your social life? Is it worth your friends? Is it worth your job? Is it worth your family? Is it worth giving up your sin? Is it worth giving up your life for the truth? How far are you willing to go for the truth?

"Unto you therefore which believe he (Jesus Christ) is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed." - 1 Peter 2:7-8
Picture a world where everyone is in darkness and they all are wearing blindfolds. You are living in that world. Only Jesus Christ can take the blindfolds off and give light to anyone's path. Though the world seeks after money, gold, and silver, truth is still the most valuable possession that the world cannot attain.
"And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life." - 1 John 5:19-20
