Is There A Hell?
By Brian Price 5/9/10

Yes. There is a hell. Jesus told this true story of the rich man and Lazarus.
"19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." - Luke 16:19-31
I was witnessing to a co-worker of mine about a week ago, and he said to me these words, "You know, I don't believe there is a hell." So I opened the Bible and showed him in scripture exactly what the Bible says about hell. He was speechless. I don't think he holds that view any longer.

There's a lot of people out there who think there is not a hell. If they do believe there's a hell, they believe it to be only temporary. The Catholic Church teaches that there is such a place called purgatory. Purgatory supposedly is where people go when they die to burn for a few thousand years to pay for their sins, and after their time is up, they go to Heaven. They also teach that you can shorten your loved ones' time in purgatory if you pay more to the church.

My friend, purgatory IS hell. And by the way, there's no getting out. The only time one will get out of hell is when it freezes over. It's forever.

When looking at the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, we can see that the rich man was indeed burning, because he said, "...for I am tormented in this FLAME." We can also see that it is forever because Abraham told him, "...they which would pass from hence to you cannot, NEITHER CAN THEY PASS TO US THAT WOULD COME FROM THENCE." Not only so, but we can see that when a person goes to hell, he utterly regrets not repenting (turning from sin, and turning to Jesus), for the rich man said, "...if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent." And finally we can see that if people do not take the Bible's stand on hell, they won't ever repent of their sins even if God were to do something miraculous such as raising one from the dead and sending that person to testify of hell.

Such is the case as we can see with the testimony of Jennifer Perez. Perez was a 15 year old girl who, as far her testimony reveals, overdosed on drugs or was drugged by someone, was hospitalized, came in and out of consciousness, went to hell and was given a second chance. We can only speculate that she may very well have died and gone to Hell, since Dr. Maurice Rawlings (see the book Beyond Death's Door) has testified of individuals coming in and out of consciousness at the same time experiencing hell.

Below is a portion of her testimony:

"When I was in front of the Father, I felt dirty! I fell to my knees and cried. I was very ashamed of myself. Even if I could see their faces, I didn't want to, because I was ashamed of myself. As I was there in front of the Lord, He showed me a movie of my life, from the beginning until now. He told me that the most important part was the things that I did after I was saved. I told my friends I was a Christian, but in fact I didn't show my fruits. And He told me that I was destined to go to Hell.

The angel Gabriel came and grabbed me by my arm. He took me to that ugly black door that I didn't even want to look at. I tried to stop myself, but I was in spirit, and we went through the door. When I was on the other side of the door, it was dark all around, I couldn't even see myself. Then we started to fall really fast, like a roller coaster. As I was falling it was getting hotter and hotter. I closed my eyes, I didn't want to see where we were.

When we stopped, I opened my eyes, and I was standing on a great road. I didn't know where it lead to. But the first thing that I felt there was thirst. I was really thirsty! I kept telling the angel "I'm thirsty, I'm thirsty" But it was like he didn't even hear me. I started to cry, and when the tears ran down my cheeks, they completely evaporated. There was the smell of sulfur, like burning tires. I tried to cover my nose, but that made it even worse. All my 5 senses were very sensitive. When I tried to cover myself, I could smell the sulfar even more. Also, all those little hairs on my arms, they just disappeared. I felt all the heat, it was very hot.

When I started looking around, I saw people being tormented by demons. There was a lady there suffering, a demon was torturing her. This demon would cut off her head and with his long spear he would stab her everywhere. He didn't care. In her eyes, in here body, in her feet, in here hands, he didn't care. Then he would put her head back on her body and would stab her and stab her. She would cry with screams of agony." - Jennifer Perez, Hell Is Real,

It is interesting to note that hell is described in the Bible as being beneath the surface of the earth. It is not somewhere in outer space, it's not somewhere in the spiritual realm, but rather, it is right beneath our feet.
"Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations." - Isaiah 14:9

"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." - Matthew 12:40

"He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption." - Acts 2:31

When Jesus made mention of Jonah (Jonas), he said that the Son of man would in like manner be in the heart of the earth. We understand this as being hell, because later in the book of Acts, Peter quoted a Messianic prophecy, Psalms 16:10, which says, "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption." Peter goes on to say that this verse spoke of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, "... that his soul was not left in HELL."

Obviously we can see that Jesus went to hell for the purpose of preaching the gospel. Many erroneously teach that this means he went there for punishment of our sins. This is not the case because the Bible tells us in 1 Peter 4:6 that the gospel was preached to them that are dead. And in 1 Peter chapter 3, the Bible tells us that it was Jesus who went to the dead to preach to them.

Also, since Jesus is God, he fills heaven and earth already, including hell. Hence what the Psalmist said...

"Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there." - Psalms 139:7-8
Below is a picture of a volcano.

Volcanoes give a clear picture of what hell is like. The Bible describes hell as a lake of fire (Revelation 21:8) which burns with fire and brimstone. This is exactly what lava consists of. It consists of melted minerals and fire. Hell is a real place, and it is below the earth's surface, just as Jesus said 2 thousand years ago. Modern science has confirmed that there is an ocean of fire below the earth's crust. In fact, our earth is made up of the crust, the mantle, and the core. The mantle is made up of lava. And our core is supposedly made up of lava and solid nickle.

Years ago, I used to get on the internet a whole lot. And one thing I used to like to do was find web sites where I could debate with people about religious things. One site I'll never forget taught that hell is not eternal. They used scripture to support their theory (cults also use scripture). But if one reads the Bible, one can see that it plainly says that hell is forever. Mark chapter 9 is probably the most clear on this matter.

"38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." - Mark 9:38-48
As you can clearly see, Jesus plainly said that hell is a place where their worm does not die, and their fire is not quenched (put out). And yet, this heresy is taught as if hell is temporary. My friend, hell is forever. I don't know why. I can't tell you why. All I can tell you is, IT IS.

Hell is not meant for innocent children or innocent people. It is place meant for whoremongers, adulterers, murderers, and thieves. It's a terrible place meant for sinners. The Bible tells us that you are an adulterer if you've done it in your heart (Matthew 5:27-28). You are also a murderer if you've done it in your heart (1 John 3:15).

"For out of the HEART proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man..." - Matthew 15:19-20

"6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." - Revelation 21:6-8

This is a terrible subject to talk about because it is so frightening even to me. But dear soul, think about this. A couple Christians once were on a talk show, and they were witnessing to the people. Some in the crowd shouted at the Christians and attacked them verbally. They did not believe what the Christians were saying. The Christians said this, "If you're right, and we're wrong, then we've lost nothing. But if we're right, and you're wrong, you've lost everything." You have nothing to lose with giving your heart to Jesus! But you have everything to lose if you reject him. Ask him to forgive you of all your sins! Call out to the Lord Jesus right now.
