Subject: Intrusive thoughts and help with it!

Hi I read the information you had on intrusive thoughts and decided to email. I have been suffering with depression, OCD and intrusive thoughts as early as 13yrs. I am presently on anti-depressants and see a psychiatrist once a month. I have moments when I have controlled my mind and I become normal again. Then times when it's very hard to control and I get real depressed. My thoughts are about God and it hurts because I am a christian and love God with my whole heart and soul. What steps could you recommend I could do to control it when it feels out of control? I know its unwanted thoughts but when it comes I feel like I am the worse person in the world and how could God love me for those intrusive thoughts. I want to live a normal life but sometimes feel like I just cant. Please reply and give me your thoughts on how I can cope with it. Thanks

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." - Philippians 4:8

Believe me when I say I know what you are going through. The pain of having to deal with uncontrollable, unwanted thoughts about God is unbearable. It's a daily battle for me. Some days are worse than others, and but ultimately, everyday is bad. I do not say that to discourage you, but as a friend, I seek to give you comfort. I can only tell you what I do to help bring me comfort. The Bible says, "through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope." - Romans 15:4. You see, the scriptures bring us comfort. When I say that I cannot go through life without the Bible, I really mean that. The Bible is the most prized possession that I have (aside from my family). Peace of mind for me is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to gain outside of the word of God, but with the word of God all things are possible. It is through Jesus Christ that we get the victory, and another name for Jesus is the Word of God. So it is through the Word of God that we get the victory.

Try this:

Take Psalms 119 and read it anytime you feel the intrusive thoughts coming on strong. I know it may seem like the thoughts are coming from you. But try to view these thoughts as mental rape. Physical rape as we all know is FORCED upon someone. Intrusive thoughts are no different. They are FORCED upon us, and we can often feel guilty as if they are our fault. But that's just not true. The intrusive thoughts are NOT your fault. They are an affliction from the enemy.

I hope this helps.

God bless.
