Subject: Intrusive thoughts

Hi Brian,

I have struggled with bad thoughts for about 5 years now. I just want to thank you for your article. It all started for me shortly after I rededicated my life to Christ. One day at work I was sitting in our break room and a magazine grabbed my attention. One of the titles of an article on the cover was "Dude..where's my Jesus". I should have known better because it was a pretty raunchy men's magazine. I started reading the article that was an interview between a pastor and another man. In one of the questions the Holy Spirit was mentioned and shortly after that the Pastor mentioned the unpardonable sin. I then began to think profane thoughts against the Holy Spirit and the more I tried to stop them the worse they became. I thought for the next several months that I had committed the unpardonable sin. I am a former Marine and I have never considered myself to be an emotional person but this experience wrecked me! I felt like my life was shattered beyond repair. I now realize that these are just intrusive thoughts and that I'm not the only one who has endured this. Something I have realized through this is to always remember the power of Gods grace. Grace is the key to overcoming these thoughts. Jesus payed it all for us on the cross and even our evil thoughts can't thwart His precious gift of grace. All we need do is fall at his feet and trust him. I still struggle with these thoughts at times but at least I see them for what they truly are. I now have a much deeper love for God because I know what it is like to have no hope. Thank God that we always have hope in Christ!! The only person that can't be forgiven is the one who doesn't ask for it or desire it. If you desire God's grace it's yours. You can post this if you think it will comfort others . Thanks again !!!

Hey Phil,

So glad to hear from you. I am really glad that my article found you in a time of need. You know, one of the biggest fears of Job (in the Bible) was that his sons had sinned and cursed God in their hearts. God allowed Job to go through immense trials. And what was the one thing at the heart of it all? To see whether Job would curse God or trust him. Job persevered by God's grace, and in the end, he overcame the temptations, and was rewarded twice as much as what he had before. I would encourage you to read that story. Its always an encouragement to me. I will definitely post this as soon as I get the time. You have a great testimony. God bless.
