Praise Report: My Friend Got Saved

Subject: Hey Pastor - I Got Some Praise!

Hey Pastor,
It's so good to be back. Thank you again for another great sermon. I always tell my friends that I hear from God every Sunday at church. I really mean that. Jesus said, "He that heareth you heareth me..." - Luke 10.

I wanted to give a praise report. I remember telling you that I would fill you in on the details on how one man got saved while I was in [place removed]. I will now explain what happened:

For about 3 months, I had been witnessing to the guys at work. Often times, the opportunity would present itself, and I would be able to share the gospel to one person, and then of course, others would be sitting around listening. A while back, (maybe January), I was talking to one of those guys, Alex. He was clearly not a believer. He was more of a skeptic than a church goer. But nonetheless, he claimed to believe in God and to be somewhat religious. He questioned the goodness and character of God, and he believed in evolution.

Now, in March, we had gotten 2 new guys who came to work. They were both Christians. One of them, Travis, had actually visited your church even though he lives in South Carolina.

So a couple weeks go by, and God opened the door again for the truth to be spoken to Alex. Travis and the other Christian were doing their best to explain to Alex what the Bible said. They said he had many questions that were almost hateful towards God and the Bible. But nonetheless, they did what they could. Travis later told me about the incident, and we both agreed to pray and ask God to open the door for us to share the truth with Alex again and that he would be saved.

A few days later, Alex came up to me at work, and spoke with me for a good 4 - 5 hours. He had all kinds of questions. Originally, his questions were in reference to demonology. And I tried to answer his questions biblically to the best of my ability. And then he moved on to questions about God's character. And then his goodness. And then his foreknowledge. And so on and so on. I spent hours explaining to him out of the Bible what God said.

He would ask something like, "Well, what was before God? How do you explain his eternal existence?"

I said, "It's kind of like this. Look at that mountain over there. That mountain, for all we know, has been there forever. It was there before us, and it will be there after we are gone. That is what God's eternal existence is like. God said, 'Before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.' But here's the thing, Alex. Imagine yourself in a city on fire. There is a train that is leaving the city, and if you don't get on, you will perish in the flames. I am telling you, 'Get on the train.' And you are sitting there asking questions. You do not have time to ask those questions. Get on the train now. Ask those questions later."

Finally, the topic in regards to hell came up.

He said, "What happens to people after they die? Where do they go?"

I said, "Well, if they are not saved, according to the Bible, they go straight to hell."

He said, "They go to hell...?"

I said, "Yes. If they were never saved, they go straight to hell. A good example can be found in Luke chapter 16, in which Jesus told us about the rich man and Lazarus. It says of the rich man, '... the rich man also died. And IN HELL, he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.'"

He was completely dumbfounded. He said, "I had no idea. I just thought that when you die, your spirit just sort of wanders around. But you're saying that the Bible says they go to hell. I had no idea. I wish people would talk more about that."

A little while later after talking some more, he came up to me where I was sitting, and he said, "Price, I'm scared. I want to get this settled now. What do I have to do?"

I said, "That's good. We need to settle this now. The Bible says, 'Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.' Let me get your email address and I will tell you exactly what you need to do."

So he did. He gave me his email address, and below is the email I wrote to him. It's long... I know. You can feel free to read it at your leisure.

But I just wanted to share that with you because I am so excited about his salvation. He really got saved. He immediately starting reading the Bible like I instructed him to. Also, we had two Bible study sessions together right before I left [place removed]. So I was able to briefly disciple him. And then I committed him to Travis and the other Christian who said they would continue doing the weekly Bible studies that I started. Originally, when I got to [place removed], it was only me and one other person (also named Brian). We would do a Bible study every week. We had no other people coming to the Bible study on a regular basis. It was just me and him. But finally, at the very last Bible study session, there were about 10 people who showed up. God was good to me and used me there. It was really great. After asking Alex what he thought of the Bible study, he said to me, "I enjoyed it. If you were a preacher, I would go to your church."

I also was able to give out almost 180 tracts while I was in [place removed]. Many people were evangelized, both American and foreign, both atheist and Muslim.

So I hope you enjoy this praise report. Let me know what sort of ideas you have in mind for the church, and I will see what I can do. I will be leaving June 2 for 3 - 4 weeks to spend time with family. Enjoy your time in Texas. God bless.

Subject: Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me." - John 14:1.

Jesus said that you believe in God. Believe in him also. That is the gospel. Believe.

The greatest hurdle people struggle with in regards to Christianity is belief. But God wants you to believe in him. Things may not always make perfect sense right now, and we may not always know the answer to everything, but I know that if you will set your heart to seek Him, you will find the answers you desire. The answers you seek are in the Bible.

"6 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon." - Isaiah 55:6-7

You asked about repentance. I know repentance is not something anyone sees as anything easy. And its not. But if you truly love someone, repentance will come natural. It is because God is good, and because he loves us, that is why we desire to repent. We love him because he first loved us. We know what is right. And we know that God wants us to do right, but it's hard. He knows this, and that is why he says to believe in him.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding." - Proverbs 3:6

We can find the strength in him to overcome our sinful desires. I truly believe that if you will call on him in sincerity, he will hear you and help you.

"For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." - 2 Corinthians 6:2

Notice that God says NOW is the day of salvation. Remember my train analogy. The train is leaving. You need to get on now. None of us know for certain what tomorrow holds. But we know that eventually, death will come. That is why now is the time to be prepared. If we look at the signs of the times, we can make a solid conclusion that all the signs point to an end of some kind. Whether that be war, or seven year tribulation, or Antichrist... all point to something bad.

"9 Know ye not* that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (*Know ye not? = Don't you know?)

The train is leaving, and the time to get on is now. Notice the words of God in 2 Corinthians, "...Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, NOW* is the day of salvation." - 2 Cor. 6:2. (*Emphasis mine)

Do exactly what the tract I gave you tells you to do as far as praying to God. Call on the name of the Lord Jesus. It is the most powerful name of God. He will hear you.

"8 But what saith it? 'The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart': that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS*, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." - Romans 10:6-13, (*Emphasis mine)

It does not have to be some elaborate pray of long words. Simply pray something along these lines and mean it will all of your heart:

"Lord Jesus, I believe in you. I know you love me. I apologize for the way I've lived my life, and I want to change. I pray that you would save me and forgive me for all of my sins."
