Hi Brian,

I recently saw your webcite when I googled "healing from intrusive religious thoughts". Thank you for sharing your story of others dealing with this debilitating condition. I too have struggled with these thoughts twice in my life once in 2004 and again in recent months. For the most part the thoughts are slowly going away but I still stuggle with the sexual intrusive blasphemous thoughts. Its like one minute Im happy and worshipping God and then the next thing the enemy or my flesh interjects with doubt and rebellion and it interrupts my worship which is quite annoying. I pray everyday constantly that the thoughts go away and I do believe that one day not only will I be healed but others too. I pray for people dealing with this condition because when you do share with others depending on who talk to will have you believing that you are possessed or some family member from our ancestry was indulged in satanic worship or something. I believe that God can take a bad situation and turn into something good. Ever since Ive been battling these thoughts its drawn me closer to God and seeking his ways more. Have you had that same experience? I think we go through these things to encourage others dealing with this problem. Thats why Im contacting you because you helped me. I will read Psalm 91 now. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Thanks again,

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 15:57

Hi Ashley,
I really feel for you with the bad thoughts. They are a constant battle for many of us. I think the only time when I have any rest from these thoughts are when I am asleep or when I am completely submerged in the scriptures. There are also other times when I don't deal with them, like when I am playing basketball or working out. As the Bible says, the victory is in Jesus (the Word of God). One of the names of Jesus is the Word of God. And we can get the victory through the word of God "..which is able to save your souls," (James 1:21). The power of the Bible is incredible. Through it we get comfort (Romans 15:4). Through it we get victory.

I would agree with you about us going through these things so that others can be encouraged. I believe, for instance, that Job went through his trials so that his story would be an encouragement to others who go through similar situations. And one thing about Job is his struggle with the devil, and how the devil tried with all of his power to get Job to blaspheme. He at one point used Job's wife to try to get him to blaspheme.

"Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." - Job 2:9

There is a real battle against God's children to get them to blaspheme. The devil wants to destroy us. That is why God's word tells us to resist him stedfast in the faith.

"8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." - 1 Peter 5:8-9

Be sure to keep your mind on Jesus. Reading the Psalms (especially Psalms 119) is going to help you immensely to get victory.

God bless.
