Be Not Faithless
by Brian Price 11/18/2010

"Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God." - John 20:27-28
Thomas, like so many of us, refuse to believe in Jesus due to a lack of seeing. He refused to believe that Jesus was risen from dead, even though his fellow disciples emphatically declared to Thomas that they had indeed seen the Lord.

Earlier today, a young man in a class I was in mentioned during a topic being discussed that he did not believe in Jesus. I thought to myself, "How can you not believe in Jesus?" There's so much historical evidence, as well as supernatural evidence to prove his existence that it's appalling to me that he doesn't believe in him. I also thought to myself, "Well that's just typical for a young white man these days to say so."

Please don't misunderstand me when I mentioned that he's a white man. I myself also am white. But I see the errors with my race. I greatly grieve over the fact that the majority of white young men are atheists. I have seen this to be especially true in the military. In GREAT contrast, other races amongst the minorities tend to believe in God. There's a very serious problem with young white men of my generation. They tend to listen to "angry white guy" music, like rock and roll, heavy metal, grunge, death metal, etc. And why is it that they all are atheists???? I just don't get it. Maybe I'm just stereotyping my own race, but hey, I can do it. I'm white. So to all the blacks, hispanics, and asians, God bless you for not being such a stiffnecked people. To all the hypocritical young white men out there: what's wrong with you people?

Anyway, I'm getting off track here....

I think the main reason why people don't believe in God is because God does not show up in the flesh on their terms. "Why doesn't God just show himself?" If he did, would you love him? Or would you still hate him? Chances are, you'd still be a scornful man. People know that God is good. They just hate him for no reason.

"But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause." - John 15:25

And God DID show up in the flesh.

"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH..." - 1 Timothy 3:16 (KING JAMES VERSION)*

*NOTE: Modern Versions remove the word GOD in this verse, and replace it with HE.

If you notice in the very first verse that is mentioned in this article, Thomas said to Jesus, "My Lord and my GOD." The most fundamental point of all of Christianity is this very thing: that Jesus is God. God put on flesh and was given the name Jesus.

My point is that God did come to the earth, and guess what happened. People killed him. But it was not possible that death should hold him, as the scriptures say. Remember what happened to the Jewish people when they were brought out of the land of Egypt? They had God with them in a pillar of a cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night. They literally had God's very presence with them, and yet God still said to Moses, "How long will it be ere they believe me...?" (Numbers 14:11) Even though they had God with them, they still did not believe in him!

Sound far fetched? Let's see.

Do you remember when the disciples did not believe the report given that Jesus had risen from the dead?

"Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen." - Mark 16:14
Yet you say, "How could they not believe after seeing all those miracles that he did?" You're exactly right. How could they not believe?

Or what about the scribes and Pharisees? Do you know what happened when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead? Yes many people went away and believed on Jesus. BUT, the Pharisees wanted to put not only Jesus to death, but also Lazarus because by reason of him many of the Jews went away and believed on Jesus! (See John 12:10-11) You can't tell me that if God were to show up at your door that you would believe in him. Or that you would love him.

That's impossible for you to love God in that regard because the Bible says, "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?" - 1 John 4:20

Do you hate your brother?

God hides his face from you because even if you were to see his face, you would die because he is so holy, and you are so evil. How so, you ask? I find that the best, most effective gospel tract ever published is THIS WAS YOUR LIFE by Jack Chick. One reason why is because the message is so good, but also because it shows God with his face hidden, and he is in all his glory, while the sinner is standing before him completely naked with his life being replayed. TALK ABOUT FEAR. Would you be afraid if that sinner was you?

If that doesn't make you fear God, then woe unto you. The thief on the cross asked the other thief, "Dost thou not fear God?" (Luke 23:40)

You are a walking vessel of dirt. A fly on the earth. You will live a few years, and then die. When you die, what will you do? Stay dead? No, you'll go to hell, unless you repent.

That other thief mocked Jesus, and yet he was about to die. How foolish to be at death's door, and still spit in God's face! Are you so foolish?

I don't say these things because I hate you, but I say them that you might be saved, if per chance you might be an atheist reading this.

Now let me show signs that God has given to the world for us to believe on Jesus:

FINDING LOST SOULS newsletter dated September/October 2010 Volume 55 ( states the following reports:

"Jesus Heals the Sick -- Pastor Samuel from Tamil Nadu shares; 'A woman named Lakshmi comes from a Hindu family; she is 42 years old. One day with no previous warning, she became paralyzed. She couldn't move her arms and she couldn't walk anymore. When this happened her family took her to many different hospitals, but the doctors could find no cure for her paralysis. She was in one hospital for a long time but she was getting sicker and sicker. She got so thin that after 15 days the doctors asked her family to take her home so she could die in comfort. Her family brought her home, then came to me and asked me to pray for her. I went to their house and prayed for her healing. By the next day, she began walking and her body was feeling better and better. Now she walks to church and has accepted Jesus as her Saviour.'

Jesus Brings Life to an Unborn Baby -- Missionary Stanley from Tamil Nadu shares this incredible testimony: 'One day I went to a village to share the Gospel to the people. While I was sharing a family came to me to tell me their story. Their daughter was in the hospital and the doctor had decided that her unborn child had died in her womb. The doctor told them that if he did not operate soon, the mother would likely die also. I went with them to the hospital to pray for her. Thank God it was at the right time; right after I prayed, the doctor came to do the operation. During the operation the doctor found that the baby was alive. Both the baby and the mother are now doing well!'

Delivered from Death -- Missionary Adimoolam from Karnataka shares: 'One man got a sudden back pain so he went to a doctor. The doctor said he had a damaged nerve and he needed an operation which would cost large amounts of money. Three months after the man got the operation, he was not able to walk any more. Then the doctor said, "You have another damaged nerve, you must get another operation.' The man asked, 'If you operate, will I walk?' The doctor said he was not sure. So the man went home from the hospital and decided to commit suicide by taking poison. He had the poison in his hand when a believer from my hurch came to him unexpectedly and shared the Gospel with him. Then he brought me to the man. I prayed for him, and the back pain went away at once. Many saw the miracle. Now he can walk, and many people in his community are now coming to church!'

Persecuted for Christ -- Missionary Thiyagarajan from Kamataka shares this: 'At a remote village a man named Nanjegudie was part of an Hindu extremist group and was opposing my ministry. He used unnecessary words, and took the law in his own hands. He took up wooden rods and stones throwing them at my partner and I while we were doing our ministry. We remained silent and when we came back to our homes, we began to pray with fasting for him that our God may change his mind.'

Suicidal Man Places All Burdens on the Lord -- Missionary Chandran from Tamil Nadu shares: 'A man named Ponusami had a health problem, and his family had debts. He was constantly thinking about his family situation. The day I met him, he didn't have any hope in his life. He was planning to commit suicide. I shared about the Gospel and the love of Jesus. He prayed, and cast all of his burdens upon Jesus. After some time, Jesus has made changes in his life. Now he has been able to pay all of his debts, and his family has also been very blessed.'

Healed From a Snake Bite -- MIssionary Balasubramani from Andhra Pradesh shares: 'A man named Murali was in his home one day and suddenly a poisonous snake came into the house and bit him. The people in his village quickly admitted him to the hospital. The family was overcome with fear because the doctor had told them that Murali probably will not live even though he had given the treatment to him. At this point, I heard about Murali's snake bite, and I and my ministry partner went quickly to give council and to pray for him and his family. We told that Jesus is a miracle working God if they believe in him. They told us to please pray for Murali. A group of believers went with me and we prayed for Murali and also his family. God worked a miracle and brought complete healing to Murali! The family has surrendered their life to the Lord and are now coming to church.'"

This is just one newsletter from the Independent Church in India. These are not people making up stories. They are TRUE EVENTS taking place in people's lives.

Jesus said this about Christians in regards to doing miracles:

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." - John 14:12

He also said this:

"Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." - Mark 16:15-18
Yet, I suppose all the miracles in the world would not be enough to convince even one sinner that he needs to be saved. Only the Bible convicts us of sin and brings us to Christ Jesus. Because Jesus even said that if they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be pursuaded though one rose from the dead.

Friend, do you honestly want to die without knowing for sure if you would go to heaven? You can know. Why don't you call upon the name of the Lord Jesus today?
