This Is My Comfort
By Brian Price 8/23/2013

"This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me. The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law." - Psalms 119:50-51

The longest chapter in the Bible speaks! What wisdom hath put this holy and blessed chapter in the center of the Bible, that it should speak the longest, and bring the most comfort! 'How comforting is thy word, oh Most High God!' saith the Psalmist. I know of no other chapter so comforting, so quickening, so enriching as this blessed chapter. What a chapter of delight! What a chapter of blessing! What a chapter of life! What we know of this chapter is very small. It's author as some may not know, is anonymous. Some believe it was King David who wrote this chapter. For some reason or another, his name is not included in this chapter to give us such a revelation. But an assumption would be safe to say that it was David that wrote this chapter. Nevertheless, the appearance leaves one to ponder why it seems anonymous. Perhaps because some of the greatest chapters ever written in the history of the world were written by men with no names! The Bible says in the book of Acts, "And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord," (Acts 11:20-21). The Bible describes in Acts a handful of unnamed believers who apparently preached the Lord Jesus and as a result, a GREAT NUMBER believed. Did you hear that? A revival happened at the hands of men whose names we do not know! The angel when inquired of by Jacob, replied, "Why dost thou ask after my name seeing it is a SECRET?" I think the reason why their names are hidden is because God should get the glory! Too often we want our names on the front page. Too often we think we should get credit. We think so highly of ourselves, that we forget that we are JUST MEN. But going to back our chapter in Psalms, we read that this book gives COMFORT. You see, the Bible gives people comfort and hope like no other book my friend. If you don't believe the Bible, all the comfort you are going to get in life is the comfort of your pillow. That's it! When life throws you curve balls and fast balls, you are going to strike out because you have NO COMFORT outside the word of God. You want peace? You want comfort? Delight yourself in the word of God!
