You Have NO Hope!

"11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world." - Ephesians 2:11-12

Here we read in Ephesians chapter 2 that those who are in this world have absolutely no hope outside of Jesus Christ. The life they live is void, empty, and completely vain. They wander about this world, walking the streets of loneliness, trying to find purpose, which they cannot find. They stagger like a drunken man who has no home to go to.

But its because they ignore the One who gives purpose and meaning.

Do you realize that if you reject Jesus Christ, you have no hope? Suppose you live a long life. Suppose you marry ten thousand beautiful women, and have twenty thousand children. Or suppose you don't like children. Suppose you marry the woman of your dreams, and you live 300 years. Do you think that life will have meaning for you then? What if you were rich? Did you know that money cannot buy happiness? All that money can buy is lots of food, lots of cars, and lots of women. It is not able to buy you happiness.

Realize that you have no hope. Your only hope is that today, you'll get to do such and such. Or your hope is that tomorrow, you will get to do this or that. But that's not true hope. Imagine you are driving your car. Imagine then that you approach a cliff. But you are going too fast to avoid the cliff. You cannot swerve out of the way to avoid it. You can't hit your brakes hard enough to stop from going off the cliff. So you brace yourself, and take the plunge off of the cliff.

What do you do?

In those last moments of your life, you realize that nothing in this world matters except those final moments, and how you can survive. There is no joy in remembering all of those parties you went to, or all of those games you played, or all of those women you had. None of that matters in this very moment of terror. You are going off this cliff. You are about to die.

My friend, this illustration sounds far fetched to ever happen to YOU. But let me remind you that you are on a non- stop, one way trip to a place of no return. Death. Death is your final resting place. It will be the place that you will remain at the longest. There is no coming back. There is no second chance. Once you are dead, that's it. It's over.

Right now, you are on a road, going too fast to stop this car of life from going over the cliff called death. You can't stop it. There's nothing you can do. It's coming. And it's coming at a time when you least expect it.

Jesus gave this illustration of death when he spoke about the days of Noah:

"37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark.

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." - Matthew 24:37-39

When Noah was preparing the ark that God told him to make, the people of the earth were eating and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and then the flood came and took them all away.

The flood destroyed every man, woman, and child, white, black, hispanic, asian. It didn't matter. The flood took them ALL away.

The same destruction is coming to you in the same way... When you least expect it.

You will be taken away from the earth like the flood took all of these people away.

What will you do? Will you call up the most famous skeptic on earth, and ask him for advice? Will you ask him what to do?

"Sir, please me, how do I embrace death? I do not want to die."

What could he possibly tell you? Will he tell you that there is hope? Perhaps you would have hope that the death will be painless. But what about after? What happens after death?

Friend, when you die, it's not all over. There is a lake of fire waiting for you. It's burning fresh and hot.

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." - Revelation 21:8

Realize that you have absolutely no hope. All hope is lost for you. When you reject Jesus Christ. When you mock him, and when you spit on him, when you curse him, you are sealing your doom forever. There is no turning back. There is no stopping this car. It's going off the cliff. You will perish.

How can the hope of the hypocrite be compared? Or with what allegory can be used to describe your hope?

It is like waiting in line to be fed only to find that you have no money in your pockets. It's like going to the doctor for the flu, only to find out that you've got cancer. It is like marrying a virgin only to find out that she's in love with your best friend. It's like kissing your children goodbye before you go to work only to look back at your house as it goes up in flames. It's like being in a car that's going off a cliff, and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Your hope is vain. You have no hope.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 says, "But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope."

Romans 8:24 says, "24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?"

You see, the hope that we have is only in Jesus. Outside of Jesus Christ, there is no hope. When dealing with the issue of whether or not there is a life after death, Paul said this in response:

"16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." - 1 Corinthians 15:16-19

The apostle Paul was essentially saying that if the hope that we have is in Christ is lost, then we are of all men most miserable, because we realize that there really is no hope at all. Those of us who are saved realize that the hope of the ressurection is what keeps us going. When we think about eternal life, it helps us to remember that the problems we face in this life are only temporary. For the unbeliever, the problems in this life are only the beginning. There is no end in sight for suffering for those who reject God. It is a completely vain existence for those who reject the salvation of God.

Let us eat and drink for tomorrow we die. That is the motto by which the unbeliever lives by.

Live for the moment. Do what feels good. There are no consequences. There are no rewards. Only temporal pleasure.

Only death.

If death is all we have to look forward to, then what's the point? What's the point to living a good life? Who cares about getting rich? Or becoming poor? What difference does it make? We all will go to one place. In the end, it all doesn't matter.

Or does it?

You see, the reality is that all will bow the knee to God one day. And those of us who have loved and obeyed him will be spared from judgment. Those who have hated him, and refused to obey will be destroyed. There is no middle ground. There is only one way to be saved from that destruction. And that is repentance. Repent and believe the gospel.

Repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

That is the only way to be saved. Jesus said,

"14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." - John 3:14-18

There is no hope outside of God. If you reject Jesus Christ, then you are rejecting the only hope you have of ever being saved from death.

And how foolish would you be! To reject a gift like the Son of God!

You would be a complete fool!

No earthly pleasure is worth a hellish torment. Friend, let me ask you a very important question.

Do you have any hope? What do you hope for? Is it another day? Do you hope that you'll live forever? The Bible says that eternal life is only in God's Son. Do you have the Son? He that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son hath not life.

Repent while there is still hope.
